How We Test

The internet is full of “best of” lists written by people who have never touched the product. That’s not this site.

The rule

If it’s on this site, Michael bought it, used it, and lived with it. Nothing here is rewritten from an Amazon spec sheet. Nothing is paid placement — no “sponsored” spots hidden inside a roundup.

What “tested” actually means here

Every pick has to survive all three of these:

  1. Unboxing and setup — Is it a pain to get working, or does it just work? Broken instructions, missing parts, app sign-up walls — all of it counts against the product.
  2. Real use, real weeks — A desk chair gets judged after a month of 8-hour days, not after sitting in it for five minutes. A floor mat gets judged after rain, heat, and a road trip in Sylvie. A USB-C hub gets judged after a week of daily plugging.
  3. The “would I buy it again” test — The final call is simple: knowing what I know now, would I spend my own money on this again? If the answer is no, it doesn’t get recommended.

Where the products come from

  • Bought at full price — most picks, so the review is untainted.
  • Sent by the manufacturer — rare, and always disclosed. Being sent a product doesn’t earn a recommendation; surviving my use does.
  • Long-term units — some products (cables, chargers, mats) stay in rotation for months so I can report on durability, not just first impressions.

What I don’t do

  • I don’t review products I haven’t used.
  • I don’t accept payment for a ranking position.
  • I don’t write “reviews” that are really press releases.
